Outcomes for <strong>2006</strong> have included:<br />
• Completion <strong>of</strong> the fi t-out <strong>of</strong> the Capo d’Orlando site to allow for the WA Maritime Training Centre - Fremantle to improve access<br />
to, and security <strong>of</strong>, their training vessels berthed there.<br />
• Completed the fi t-out <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>fi ces in the Chamber <strong>of</strong> Commerce building to house the Fremantle Career Development Centre.<br />
• Completed the relocation and reappointment <strong>of</strong> the Bookshop at the Rockingham Campus.<br />
• Completed works for the creation <strong>of</strong> an e-Link Centre in the Administration areas <strong>of</strong> Fremantle and Rockingham Campuses so<br />
students can access on-line facilities.<br />
• Finalised the fi t-out <strong>of</strong> joint facilities at the Murdoch campus for the following student support programs: CareerConnect,<br />
Student Services, Disability Services and an International Student Offi ce.<br />
• Refurbishment <strong>of</strong> a seminar room at Murdoch campus and installation <strong>of</strong> additional shade gazebo areas in the student<br />
courtyard at Rockingham Campus.<br />
• Provided support and advice on provision <strong>of</strong> utilities, security and the management <strong>of</strong> Occupational Safety and Health issues<br />
for the construction <strong>of</strong> the initial Wet Trades Facility at Peel Education and <strong>TAFE</strong> Campus<br />
10.2 Teaching and Learning<br />
10.2.1 Teaching and Learning Team<br />
In <strong>2006</strong>, the Teaching and Learning Directorate supported a range <strong>of</strong> products and learning and development opportunities for<br />
lecturers, to allow them to provide high value training and assessment services<br />
Outcomes for <strong>2006</strong> include the following activities:<br />
• establishment <strong>of</strong> Teaching and Learning Campus Mentors at the fi ve major campuses to enhance and support<br />
workplace learning opportunities for lecturing staff at the local level, including sharing and disseminating <strong>of</strong> quality teaching,<br />
learning and assessment materials<br />
• design and provision <strong>of</strong> different delivery options for lecturers to complete a Certifi cate IV and/or Diploma <strong>of</strong> Training and<br />
Assessment allowing 56 lecturers to access the program<br />
• to enhance teaching strategies and classroom management <strong>of</strong> young people, 19 lecturers participated a learning project<br />
undertaking Instructional Intelligence design training<br />
• provision <strong>of</strong> more than 130 different learning and development events designed for <strong>Challenger</strong> lecturers and coordinated by the<br />
Teaching and Learning Division<br />
• co-ordinated programs through Kadadjiny Mia: Centre for Aboriginal Learning for Indigenous students <strong>of</strong>f-campus in culturally<br />
appropriate settings close to public transport and where the programs were modifi ed to suit individual learning styles, and<br />
included additional literacy and numeracy support<br />
• consulted widely with <strong>TAFE</strong>WA practitioners, WA Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Training representatives and the WA branch <strong>of</strong><br />
the Australian Education Union, to determine the capabilities required <strong>of</strong> educational leaders for the <strong>TAFE</strong> sector, in developing<br />
a <strong>TAFE</strong>WA Lecturers Qualifi cation Framework. Once endorsed by stakeholders, these capabilities were developed into<br />
competency standards and included in new vocational graduate qualifi cations in educational leadership.<br />
• designed and implemented a Reframing the Future project around Recognition <strong>of</strong> Prior Learning (RPL), working with VET<br />
practitioners to identify current RPL research and how fi ndings might be applied to industries relevant to <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong>’s<br />
Industry Training Centres.<br />
• researched, developed and piloted a Mobile Technology initiative involving training programs content and assessment accessed<br />
through mobile technology devices. These were designed to be used either on campus or in workplaces.<br />
• designed and implemented a Web 2.0 technologies project to assess the potential <strong>of</strong> a range <strong>of</strong> new web tools for e-business<br />
and e-learning both on- and <strong>of</strong>f-campus
