10.2.2 Curriculum Services<br />

This Unit has had a very busy year with an increase in the number <strong>of</strong> applications to the Training Accreditation Council (TAC) on<br />

behalf <strong>of</strong> the College and the Curriculum Services and Support Network (CSSN). The total number <strong>of</strong> applications to TAC in <strong>2006</strong><br />

was 263, compared with 122 in 2005 and 151 in 2004.<br />

These comprised:<br />

• accreditation <strong>of</strong> courses: 13<br />

• extensions <strong>of</strong> accreditation: 18<br />

• registration <strong>of</strong> qualifi cations within existing scope: 69<br />

• extensions to the Scope <strong>of</strong> Registration: 10<br />

• changes to delivery locations [additions and deletions]: 53<br />

• formal removal <strong>of</strong> qualifi cations from scope: 100<br />

Curriculum Services has also provided support for the update <strong>of</strong> information in the Products and Services Catalogue [PSC] that is<br />

the main source <strong>of</strong> on-line course information for prospective students.<br />

The Primary Industry and Personal Services CSSN is located above the library in Beaconsfi eld. The CSSN provides advice and<br />

curriculum support to a State-wide network encompassing 33 industry areas in WA. Key activities this year have included:<br />

• re-accreditation <strong>of</strong> the New Opportunities for Women; Wider Opportunities for Work; and Gaining Access to Training and<br />

Employment access and participation courses on behalf <strong>of</strong> the WA Department <strong>of</strong> Education and Training<br />

• an outreach program to enable visits and a pr<strong>of</strong>essional development program for regional and remote colleges<br />

• implementation <strong>of</strong> Trade Reforms in Hairdressing and Primary Industry<br />

10.3 Business Services<br />

Business Services supports and enables <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong>’s core business to provide high quality training delivery services to<br />

industry, the community and individuals.<br />

The following activities formed the core <strong>of</strong> Business Services work for <strong>2006</strong>:<br />

• implementation <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> Sustainability Action Plan;<br />

• implementation <strong>of</strong> the Workforce Management Strategy<br />

• implementation <strong>of</strong> the Risk Management Program<br />

• implementation <strong>of</strong> assets management<br />

• exercising a watching brief on the major capital works programs projects involving, Kwinana Automotive Centre and the<br />

Australian Centre for Energy and Process Training<br />

• Coordinating the College roll-out <strong>of</strong> Voice Over Internet Protocol telephony<br />

• re-engineering local services in response to the migration <strong>of</strong> Finance and Human Resources functions to Shared Services.<br />

10.3.1 Human Resource Management and Development<br />

This area <strong>of</strong> College activity responds to four <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> strategic goals:<br />

• providing industry driven training and related services to skill the workforce;<br />

• building and maintaining a viable training organisation in a competitive global training market;<br />

• being an employer <strong>of</strong> choice, and<br />

• continuously improving our business processes.<br />

Important outcomes during <strong>2006</strong> were:<br />

• successfully transferring operational processes such as payroll into the Education and Training Shared Services Centre;<br />

• implementing a new chemical inventory management system (ChemWatch);<br />

• revising the <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> Staff Diversity and Equity Plan;<br />

• developing new recruitment documentation for senior managers, in line with the Government’s Leadership<br />

Capability Framework;<br />

• developing an Indigenous Recruitment Program with the College’s Kadadjiny Mia Centre for Aboriginal Learning, and<br />

• conducting the annual College awards program, which recognises the importance <strong>of</strong> roles and voluntary efforts <strong>of</strong> more than<br />

100 employees in such essential activities as fi re wardens and fi rst aid <strong>of</strong>fi cers.
