CHAPTER 12 – STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE<br />

<strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> | <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2006</strong> 75<br />

As a <strong>TAFE</strong>WA college, <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> is an autonomous government agency created under the Vocational Education and<br />

Training Act 1996. Its purpose is to research, develop and deliver training and related services that support the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> individuals from a range <strong>of</strong> backgrounds, industry, our communities and the State within a sustainable environment, and<br />

focusing particularly on industry areas currently experiencing skills shortages. <strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> is listed as a government<br />

department for the purpose <strong>of</strong> meeting the requirements <strong>of</strong> the Public Sector Management Act 1994, Superannuation and Family<br />

Benefi ts Act 1938, Government Employees Superannuation Act 1987 and the Government Employees Housing Act 1964.<br />

12.1 Compliance With Written Law<br />

<strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> has exercised controls, which provide reasonable assurance that it has complied with all relevant requirements<br />

<strong>of</strong> the written law, including those for the receipt and expenditure <strong>of</strong> monies, the acquisition and disposal <strong>of</strong> public properties<br />

and the incurring <strong>of</strong> liabilities.<br />

<strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> complies with the following legislation in carrying out its functions and activities:<br />

• Equal Employment Act 1984<br />

• Education Act 1928<br />

• Electoral Act 1907<br />

• Financial Administration & Audit Act 1985<br />

• Freedom <strong>of</strong> Information Act 1992<br />

• Government Employees Superannuation Act 1987<br />

• Industrial Relations Act 1979; 1990 Commonwealth<br />

• Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act 1984<br />

• Public Sector Management Act 1994<br />

• Vocational Education and Training Act 1996<br />

• Workers’ Compensation and Assistance Act 1981<br />

• Workplace Agreement Act 1994<br />

12.2 Access and Equity<br />

<strong>Challenger</strong> <strong>TAFE</strong> has complied with the requirement to:<br />

• report on cultural diversity and language services outcomes;<br />

• develop, implement and report on programs designed for people with a disability and people seeking access to education<br />

and training;<br />

• report on youth outcomes.<br />
