<strong>ILO</strong> sends the texts of newly adopted<br />

instruments to governments; governments<br />

are obliged to submit<br />

these instruments to the competent<br />

authorities within 12 (18) m<strong>on</strong>ths and<br />

to report <strong>on</strong> this to the <strong>ILO</strong>; they are<br />

also to c<strong>on</strong>sult representative organizati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

of employers and workers<br />

<strong>on</strong> proposals to be made to the competent<br />

authorities.<br />

<strong>ILO</strong> sends letter to nati<strong>on</strong>al employers’<br />

distinguishes between first and sec<strong>on</strong>d reports <strong>on</strong> the <strong>on</strong>e hand and subsequent<br />

periodic and n<strong>on</strong>-periodic reports <strong>on</strong> the other:<br />

¡ First and sec<strong>on</strong>d reports<br />

For all C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s, a detailed report is requested up<strong>on</strong> its entry into force for<br />

a country (<strong>on</strong>e year after ratificati<strong>on</strong>) and two years later (in certain circumstances,<br />

<strong>on</strong>e year later).<br />

¡ Subsequent periodic reports<br />

Subsequently, <strong>on</strong> certain C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s, regarded as priority C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

(Nos. 29, 81, 87, 98, 100, 105, 111, 122, 129, 138, 144, 182) reports are requested<br />

every two years. On all other C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s, except shelved C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>s<br />

(see Chapter VI), simplified reports are requested every five years.<br />

¡ Subsequent n<strong>on</strong>-periodic reports<br />

In particular cases, the supervisory organs may also request detailed reports<br />

outside the above intervals. This might happen if comments are received from<br />

employers’ or workers’ organizati<strong>on</strong>s <strong>on</strong> the applicati<strong>on</strong> of a particular C<strong>on</strong>venti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

Governments supply informati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong> the basis of report forms approved by the<br />

GB. They are requested not <strong>on</strong>ly to present the legal situati<strong>on</strong>, but also to describe
