If at the end of the calendar year the student has not corrected the diffi culties<br />

or inadequacies, the Committee on Student Life and Student Standing shall review<br />

the situation with the student and may decide to recommend the student’s dismissal<br />

to the faculty.<br />

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES<br />

Students with grievances related to their life and work in the <strong>Seminary</strong> should speak<br />

fi rst with the person causing the grievance or the administrator into whose hands<br />

are entrusted the policies causing the grievance. If this initial conversation does<br />

not resolve the concerns that are raised, the student should put the grievance in<br />

writing. Where it is not clear to whom the written grievance should be addressed,<br />

the student should consult the vice president for student affairs or the academic<br />

dean for a recommendation.<br />

DISMISSAL<br />

The faculty may suspend or dismiss any student for reasons including, but not<br />

limited to, unsatisfactory academic performance, academic dishonesty, or conduct<br />

unbecoming to Christian community. All such actions shall be recorded in the<br />

faculty minutes with a statement of the reason(s).<br />

DRUG ABUSE AND PREVENTION COUNSELING POLICY<br />

<strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Presbyterian</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>, in its concern for the growth, equipment,<br />

and maturation of students, makes counseling services available when such services<br />

are indicated. The <strong>Seminary</strong> identifi es personnel and institutions. It also provides<br />

limited funds to subsidize the cost of services of physicians, therapists, and counselors<br />

doing substance abuse counseling, treatment, and prevention.<br />

POLICY ON FIREARMS<br />

The carrying or possession of any type of weapon or fi rearm (including pellet guns<br />

and BB guns) on the premises of <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Presbyterian</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> is strictly<br />

and absolutely prohibited. This prohibition expressly includes those persons licensed<br />

to carry concealed fi rearms (other than those who are licensed peace offi cers). For<br />

purposes of this policy, the premises of <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> are defi ned as any property,<br />

building or portion of a building or property that <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> owns or occupies,<br />

whether on a temporary or permanent basis, and any off-site premises where <strong>Austin</strong><br />

<strong>Seminary</strong> is conducting any activity sponsored by <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>. This includes all<br />

parking lots, parking areas, sidewalks and walkways, and all vehicles and equipment<br />

owned by <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>. Any person violating this policy will be required to<br />

leave <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>’s premises immediately. Any employee or student found<br />

to be in violation of this policy will be subject to discipline, including immediate<br />

termination or dismissal.<br />

POLICY ON INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE USE<br />

<strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Presbyterian</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> is committed to equality for women and<br />
