EDUCATIONAL ENVIRONMENT<br />
a key to understanding and shaping people’s perceptions of themselves, of others,<br />
and of the God we worship, the <strong>Seminary</strong> urges students, faculty, and staff to use<br />
language in public discourse, in classroom discussions, and in their writings which<br />
does not exclude persons on the basis of gender, race, age, economic condition, or<br />
handicapping condition.<br />
ISSUANCE OF TRANSCRIPTS<br />
An offi cial transcript can be sent by the registrar to a designated offi cial, agency,<br />
or institution at the written request of any student, former student, or graduate of<br />
the <strong>Seminary</strong> provided the student has met all obligations to the <strong>Seminary</strong>. The<br />
cost is $5 per copy.<br />
With respect to dismissal or withdrawal from the <strong>Seminary</strong>, the student’s<br />
transcript shall record the action and the date of such action.<br />
VETERANS<br />
<strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Presbyterian</strong> <strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> is approved to enroll veterans receiving<br />
educational assistance under the provisions of Public Law 550, 82nd Congress,<br />
Veterans’ Benefi ts Improvement Act. The registrar handles veterans’ enrollment<br />
certifi cation. Veterans are eligible to apply for fi nancial aid which is granted by the<br />
<strong>Seminary</strong> according to demonstrated need and availability of funds.<br />

LIFE IN THE SEMINARY COMMUNITY<br />
Community forms around special interests, shared tasks, and common commitments.<br />
At <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> we are committed to preparing leaders for the ministry and<br />
mission of the church. This commitment extends beyond the classroom to special<br />
interest in and concern for the welfare of individuals, families, and groups. While<br />
all faculty and administration share this concern and participate in this care, this<br />
intention is given visibility and institutional support through the Offi ce of Student<br />
Affairs which seeks to maintain and enhance the characteristics of Christian<br />
community through support of students and their families.<br />
The Student Affairs Offi ce supports international students to help integrate them<br />
into the <strong>Seminary</strong> community and facilitate the unique contributions they can make<br />
to our life together. This offi ce also supports Community Edge, a group which serves<br />
student families—couples with or without children—and single parents.<br />
The Student Senate provides programs to enrich the lives of students and the<br />
life of the community and works to constructively address student and community<br />
concerns.<br />
The vice president for student affairs and vocation is available for counseling,<br />
referrals, and support for other nonacademic concerns in an attempt to equip students<br />
personally and professionally for life and service. Financial support for counseling and<br />
consultations, often in conjunction with area professionals, is available. Emergency<br />
aid and crisis management are also available through this offi ce.<br />
The Care Team provides caring support to and advocacy for students and their<br />
families in diffi cult situations, a coordinated response as necessary, and assistance<br />
