ECUMENICAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIP<br />

W. P. NEWELL MEMORIAL FELLOWSHIP<br />

An endowment was established in 1946 by Mrs. W. P. Newell of Albany, Texas,<br />

as a memorial to her late husband, W. P. (Dick) Newell. The income from this<br />

fund is to be used annually by the Board of Trustees of the <strong>Seminary</strong> to provide<br />

scholarships, a graduate study fellowship for a Master of Divinity student, or in<br />

some other manner to enrich the lives of those training for the Christian ministry.<br />

This fellowship carries a grant of $3,000.<br />

JANIE MAXWELL MORRIS FELLOWSHIP<br />

The Janie Maxwell Morris Fellowship was established in 1953 by a bequest from<br />

the will of Mrs. Milton Morris of <strong>Austin</strong>, Texas. The income on this bequest may<br />

be used in aiding some Master of Divinity graduate of the <strong>Seminary</strong> who desires to<br />

pursue his or her studies further. This fellowship carries a grant of $2,000.<br />

THE ALSUP-FRIERSON FELLOWSHIP<br />

The Alsup-Frierson Fellowship for Excellence in Biblical Exegesis and Hermeneutics<br />

was established in 2005 by the families of John and Carole Alsup of Georgetown,<br />

Texas, and Clarence and Betty Frierson of Shreveport, Louisiana, in recognition<br />

of the long-standing tradition of excellence in biblical studies at <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>.<br />

The endowment is to fund an award to be granted annually to the MDiv or MATS<br />

graduating student deemed by the Biblical Department (and approved by the<br />

faculty as a whole) to have demonstrated excellence in the fi eld of biblical exegesis<br />

and hermeneutics.<br />

TERMS OF FELLOWSHIPS<br />

The recipient of a fellowship must use it within seven years after it has been awarded.<br />

The proposal for the use of a fellowship must be submitted by the recipient, in<br />

writing, to the academic dean who is empowered by faculty to authorize the release<br />

of fellowship funds if such request is in accordance with the stipulations of the<br />

particular fellowship. The academic dean may refer the matter to the Committee<br />

on Student Life and Student Standing for counsel or advice.<br />

�ECUMENICAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIP�<br />

Each year, <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> provides one or more ecumenical fellowships to qualifi ed<br />

international students. The nonrenewable fellowships cover room, board, tuition,<br />

fees, books, and incidentals. Facility in English is prerequisite.<br />

Ordinarily students receiving these fellowships shall come from one of three<br />

institutions with which <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> has cooperative agreements: Reformed<br />

<strong>Theological</strong> Collegium, Debrecen, Hungary; Justo Mwale <strong>Theological</strong> College,<br />

Lusaka, Zambia; the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa; or shall be sponsored<br />

by the World Council of Churches, the World Alliance of Reformed Churches,<br />

or the Worldwide Ministries Division of the <strong>Presbyterian</strong> Church (U.S.A.). They<br />

also shall have the approval and support of their local churches or denominational<br />

governing bodies.<br />
