MASTER’S-LEVEL ACADEMIC INFORMATION<br />

7. In the pass/fail option, the grade of P has no effect on the student’s grade<br />

point average, while the grade of F has a negative effect.<br />

8. A course for which the grade of D or F is earned will not be counted in a<br />

student’s degree program. A required course must be repeated.<br />

9. When a grade of D or F is earned and the course is repeated, all instances<br />

of the course appear on the student’s transcript. The grades earned for all<br />

courses are counted in the student’s grade point average.<br />

10. If a fi nal course grade is not submitted for a student who has neither<br />

completed the requirements for a course, nor been granted an extension<br />

by the academic dean, a grade of F shall be posted. In this instance, the F<br />

is not remediable.<br />

11. If a student receives a failing course grade that the professor determines is<br />

remediable, the procedures and deadlines for extensions (see below) apply.<br />

In order to receive a Master of Arts (<strong>Theological</strong> Studies) degree, Master of<br />

Divinity degree, Diploma, Certifi cate of Individual <strong>Theological</strong> Study, or <strong>Theological</strong><br />

Certifi cate, students must have a 2.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for all their<br />

academic work. The grade point average is computed by dividing the total number<br />

of grade points earned by the total number of credits for which a letter grade has<br />

been recorded.<br />

The following grades are given in special situations:<br />

I Incomplete. The academic work is not complete for reasons beyond the<br />

student’s control; requires an extension approvedby the academic dean. I<br />

becomes F if the work is not completed by the deadline.<br />

Q Dropped (quit) course after the add/drop period.<br />

W Withdrew from seminary.<br />

EXTENSIONS<br />

A student may submit a request to the associate dean for student academic affairs<br />

for an extension in order to complete the requirements for a particular master’s-level<br />

course. If the request is granted, the academic dean will notify the student and the<br />

professor in writing. The duration of an extension shall be for no more than three<br />

weeks beyond the end of the course. A second such extension may be requested and<br />

granted for each course. A grade of I, incomplete, is recorded when an extension is<br />

granted by the academic dean. If a fi nal course grade is not submitted for a student<br />

who has neither completed the requirements for a course, nor been granted an<br />

extension by the academic dean, a grade of F shall be posted. In this instance, the<br />

F is not remediable.<br />

SATISFACTORY PROGRESS<br />

A student is judged to be making satisfactory progress toward an MATS or MDiv<br />

degree by maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale and<br />

by ongoing enrollment in suffi cient course work to complete the degree in no more<br />

than six years after matriculation.<br />

ACADEMIC PROBATION<br />

A student enrolled in the MATS, MDiv, Diploma, or <strong>Theological</strong> Certifi cate program,<br />

or any student admitted on provisional status is placed on academic probation for<br />

any of the following:<br />

� failure to maintain a cumulative 2.0 grade point average;<br />
