DMIN - EVANGELISM AND MISSION<br />
pastoral care. Attention is given to the minister’s own experiences of loss, to clarifying the<br />
minister’s theological understanding of illness, suffering, and death as a precursor to pastoral<br />
care involving death and dying, and also to facilitating pastoral care that relates to various<br />
types of loss. The roles of prayer and other faith practices for aiding bereaved persons are<br />
discussed and evaluated.<br />
II. EVANGELISM AND MISSION IN A MULTICULTURAL CONTEXT<br />
This area of concentration is designed to increase the student’s ability to lead the<br />
church in evangelism and mission in the pluralistic North American context.<br />
Students enrich their personal and theological understandings of mission and<br />
evangelism, enhance their ability to analyze particular social contexts for ministry<br />
with persons of various cultural and racial groups, and develop skills which facilitate<br />
effective congregational involvement in mission and evangelism in their communities<br />
and the world. This area also provides for a concentration in rural ministry through<br />
courses and projects. Basic courses in this area of concentration are:<br />
EM.801 LIFE AND WITNESS IN A PLURALISTIC SETTING<br />
This course is designed to provide an overview of the religious, cultural, and ethnic reality<br />
of North America. Students are helped to understand the pluralistic mosaic of their own<br />
communities and regions. Biblical, theological, and historical resources are utilized to assist<br />
in drawing out implications for the mission and ministry of the church.<br />
EM.805 CONGREGATIONAL AND CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS<br />
Participants in this course gain the knowledge and skills required to understand the processes,<br />
programs, and identity of a particular church. In addition, they learn how to study the social<br />
worlds, demographic character, patterns of social interaction, and values and norms of a<br />
particular ministry setting.<br />
EM.809 MOBILIZING THE CHURCH FOR MISSION AND EVANGELISM<br />
This course is built on the assumption that congregations and church governing bodies are<br />
called to reach into the world both socially and evangelistically. Leadership in this process<br />
