SEMINARY FELLOWSHIPS<br />
CHARLES L. KING PREACHING AWARD<br />
This award, made possible through the generosity of an anonymous donor, is given<br />
to a graduating MDiv student for excellence in preaching. It is awarded by the<br />
Board of Trustees, ordinarily on recommendation of the Jean Brown Professor of<br />
Homiletics and Liturgics. It carries a grant of $1,500.<br />
MARTIN G. MILLER AWARDS<br />
The Martin G. Miller Awards, begun in 1954 by Mr. and Mrs. Martin G. Miller of<br />
Houston, Texas, are awarded annually to students in each class. This award is made<br />
on the basis of past record and indicated potential for the pastoral ministry and<br />
consists of funds distributed over a three-year period, provided satisfactory progress<br />
is maintained by the recipient. Recipients are selected by the director of admissions<br />
and the president of the <strong>Seminary</strong>.<br />
PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS<br />
Renewable scholarships of up to $1,000 are awarded annually by the president<br />
to entering Master of Divinity students upon recommendation of the director of<br />
admissions. These awards, made without reference to fi nancial need, are based on<br />
both academic achievement and promise for ministry, with special consideration<br />
given to racial ethnic students.<br />
JOHN B. SPRAGENS AWARD<br />
This award was funded by Dr. Kenneth Richardson and his wife, Roberta, Mrs.<br />
Charles H. Byrd, and friends of John B. Spragens. The award is to be given each year<br />
to an outstanding graduate, selected by the faculty, based on the recommendation<br />
of the <strong>Seminary</strong>’s professor of Christian education, to be used for further training<br />
in Christian education.<br />
�SEMINARY FELLOWSHIPS�<br />
Each year the <strong>Seminary</strong> awards fellowships to fi ve of its graduating students.<br />
Awards are based on Christian character, academic achievement, and promise for<br />
ministry.<br />
DAVID L. STITT FELLOWSHIP<br />
The <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> Association, the alumni association of <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Presbyterian</strong><br />
<strong>Theological</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>, established the David L. Stitt Fellowship for continued study<br />
in 1971. This fellowship for $10,000 is offered each year, to be awarded to one<br />
member of the Master of Divinity senior class. The award is made by the Board of<br />
the <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> Association upon the recommendation of the faculty on the<br />
basis of Christian character, scholarship, personality, and ability.<br />
PILE-MORGAN FELLOWSHIP<br />
An endowment was established in 1984 in honor of Leo V. Pile and Helen Porter<br />
Pile of Harlingen, Texas, and Edmund Holland Morgan and Estella Martin Morgan<br />
of Dallas, Texas, the income from which is to be awarded to a member of the Master<br />
of Divinity graduating class for the purpose of advanced study. The selection is<br />
made by the faculty on the basis of Christian character, scholarship, and ability.<br />
This fellowship carries a grant of $8,000.<br />
