THE GEORGE S. HEYER JR. DISTINGUISHED LECTURESHIP<br />

Lecturer to be announced.<br />
This lectureship was established to honor George Heyer, professor emeritus of the history of<br />
doctrine, for his thirty years as a valued member of the <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> faculty. The purpose of<br />
the annual lecture is to symbolize and advance the important relationship between the academy<br />
and the church; to recall the long-lasting cooperation between The University of Texas and the<br />
<strong>Seminary</strong>; and to encourage the positive relationship between faith and knowledge.<br />
HOXIE THOMPSON LECTURES<br />
The <strong>Seminary</strong>’s Master of Arts (<strong>Theological</strong> Studies) and Master of Divinity programs<br />
are enriched each year by the presence on campus of a number of distinguished<br />
visiting lecturers. Such persons are ordinarily designated as Hoxie Thompson<br />
Lecturers. Hoxie Thompson Lecturers in the 2007-<strong>2008</strong> academic year were:<br />
Dr. Martin Karrer, Professor of New Testament, University of Wuppertal, Germany<br />
Dr. Kelley Coblentz-Bautch, Associate Professor of Religious Studies, St. Edward’s<br />
University, <strong>Austin</strong>, Texas<br />
Dr. Peter Phan, Ignacio Ellecuria Chair of Catholic Social Thought, Georgetown<br />
University, Washington, DC<br />
Dr. John McCoy, minister-at-large, Grace Presbytery, Dallas, Texas<br />
JEAN BROWN VISITING SCHOLAR<br />
Established by the board of trustees in order to attract outstanding scholars to the<br />
<strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong> campus for periods of up to one year, the position of Jean Brown<br />
Visiting Scholar was fi rst fi lled in September 1982. The Jean Brown Scholar is invited<br />
to participate in the life of the <strong>Seminary</strong>, and may spend his or her time teaching,<br />
writing, and/or meeting informally with students and faculty.<br />
THE LOUIS H. AND KATHERINE S. ZBINDEN CHAIR OF<br />
PASTORAL MINISTRY AND LEADERSHIP<br />
The Louis H. and Katherine S. Zbinden Chair of Pastoral Ministry and Leadership<br />
was endowed in 2002 by the congregation of First <strong>Presbyterian</strong> Church, San<br />
Antonio, Texas, to honor Louis Zbinden’s thirty-one year ministry there, and to<br />
demonstrate appreciation for his guidance and hope for a new generation of church<br />
leaders. The chair provides funding to call, for one-to-fi ve year terms, distinguished<br />
and experienced pastors to teach in the broad area of ministry, including: church<br />
administration, stewardship, worship, preaching, Christian education, pastoral care,<br />
and church programming.<br />
