THE RACHEL HENDERLITE AWARD<br />
The Rachel Henderlite Award was initially funded through a bequest in the will of<br />
Ms. Betty Jane Schaufele, longtime friend and companion of the late Dr. Rachel<br />
Henderlite. Dr. Henderlite served for several years as professor of Christian education<br />
at <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>. The award goes to a graduating Master of Divinity student who<br />
has made a signifi cant contribution to cross-cultural and interracial relationships<br />
while at <strong>Austin</strong> <strong>Seminary</strong>.<br />
HENDRICK-SMITH AWARD FOR MISSION AND EVANGELISM<br />
The Hendrick-Smith Award for Mission and Evangelism was established in 2005<br />
with a gift from William Smith Sevier of Dickinson, Texas. The award goes to a<br />
graduating senior who has shown academic interest in, or whose life direction is<br />
focused on, evangelism and missions in this country or overseas. The award is<br />
in memory of the Reverends James Hardin Smith, William Swan Smith, Edwin<br />
Eugene Hendrick, and John Henry Hendrick. Each of these men served as pastors<br />
of <strong>Presbyterian</strong> congregations and as evangelists conducting revival meetings.<br />
MR. AND MRS. SAM B. HICKS SCHOLARSHIP<br />
The Mr. and Mrs. Sam B. Hicks Scholarships are offered annually to second- and<br />
third-year students on the basis of academic achievement, Christian character, and<br />
promise of effectiveness in the ministry. Recipients are determined by the president<br />
and the academic dean. The purpose is to provide incentive for exceptional work<br />
and maintenance of high standards by the recipients.<br />
THE JEAN BROWN FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS<br />
Jean Brown Fellowships and Scholarships are awarded annually to Master of Divinity<br />
degree applicants who demonstrate interest in and strong promise vocationally<br />
for leadership in the church, exceptional academic achievement, and leadership<br />
ability.<br />
Selection of recipients is made by the faculty of the <strong>Seminary</strong>. Up to four Jean<br />
Brown Fellowships and up to four Jean Brown Scholarships may be awarded for<br />
each entering class. The awards are renewable for a period up to three years.<br />
Each Jean Brown Fellowship covers full tuition and fees, room and board in<br />
Currie Hall (or credit of an equivalent monetary amount toward other on-campus<br />
housing), and includes a book/supplies stipend of $400 for each fall and spring term.<br />
Jean Brown Scholarship awards cover full tuition. The Jean Brown awards will be<br />
renewed as long as the recipient continues as a full-time MDiv student, maintains<br />
high academic standards, and demonstrates continuing promise for the ministry.<br />
Applicants must have a complete admissions application fi le and must submit a<br />
Merit Scholarship application to the vice president for admissions by March 1. All<br />
MDiv applicants are eligible to apply, but awards are not offered until the applicant<br />
is admitted. Announcement of the recipients is made by April 1.<br />
CARL KILBORN BOOK AWARD<br />
This award is funded by Mrs. Carl Kilborn of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in memory<br />
of her late husband. It is to be given to a graduating senior who shows leadership<br />
and potential for the ministry along with academic excellence.<br />
