Estimados lectores:
Me llamo Rosa María y soy profesora
de inglés en la sección de Béjar. Aquí
estamos también otros dos profesores
interinos más: Santiago de inglés y
Elizabeth de francés.
El lugar es precioso, rodeado de un entorno natural
muy atractivo y de un aire limpio y fresco.
A continuación podéis leer una historia muy bien
construida, llena de imaginación e ingenio que una
alumna de segundo curso del ciclo elemental que se
llama María del Castañar Garrido ha escrito para
nosotros. El título: “Seen through my window”. Así
mismo, Susana Abad Mayo, de cuarto curso, colabora
con una carta escrita a un editor en relación con un
asuntillo provocado por unos estudiantes del Colegio
Whitecross… y los defiende muy bien, por cierto.
Además, propone a los vecinos una invitación muy
acertada. Desde aquí quiero agradecer a ambas alumnas
su interés y participación.
Esperamos que ambos escritos, relato y carta, os
entretengan y sean de vuestro agrado.

Seen through my window
I went towards the window of my bedroom and I
looked through it. From there, I could see a little study
where a painter worked every day. There wasn’t almost
any furniture, only a chair and a table where there were
a lot of full and wooden boxes with tubes of intense
colours and paintbrushes of different sizes. There were
also pictures covering the walls and even lying all over
the floor. There wasn’t hardly any space.
Next to the door the painter was preparing his
paintings. After that, he sat down and began to draw.
The man moved slowly. He was a lonely and introvert
person. He only had half of his faced illuminated and he
looked old and tired. He took a paintbrush and painted
an empty city with enormous houses and narrow streets
around the buildings. The artist looked at the picture but
he didn’t like it. The same as the rest of his jobs it was
sad, dark and, above all, without life so he decided to
paint something colourful and alive.
The man changed the canvas and worked for about
five hours painting the most vivid roses in his pictures.
When he finished, he closed his eyes because he was
very tired. Then, he opened them and saw that canvas
was white. There weren’t any forms or lines but under
the easel there were beauty red roses.
The man couldn’t believe his eyes. He was very
surprised because he had created life!. The painter
thought for a few moments and he said to himself that he
had to try something more amazing, such as an animal
and then he started to paint again.
The afternoon came and the artist felt asleep on his
chair. He didn’t move and his right arm fell to the floor.
The picture that was opposite him was empty. Suddenly,
a small dog appeared into the room and run until the
man’s hand. It licked it and he woke up. He picked it up
and caressed it for a long time. After that, the painter
took the finest paintbrush and began to draw a lot of
curved forms. Although he was nervous and his fingers
trembled he worked all night long.
Next morning, the jog was ended. I looked at the room
and I saw a shadow by the man. I looked at it again and
I could see a woman going out of the painting. At that
precise moment, I understood it all. The man had been
too much time alone and he needed someone to share
his life and his art.
The painter was exhausted and lain on the floor. The
woman came near him and kissed him. He opened his
eyes, smiled and finally died.

Open day at whitecross college
Dear Editor,
I’m writing to you concerning the article which was
published in your newspaper last week. I’m the Social
Organiser at Whitecross College and we hope that you’ll
publish this letter.
To start with, I would like to apologize for the
inconveniences we might have caused to local residents.
It’s true that we usually make some noise at nights and
we aren’t very careful with the cleaning of the streets.
We’ll try to avoid this kind of conducts.
But, the article isn’t all true. We’ve got a very good
social programme and the results of our exams are
excellent.
In order to improve our relationships with the
neighbourhood, we have planned an Open Day and we
would like people to come and enjoy the Day with us.
We’ll have lots of interesting events during the Open
Day (Saturday 11th, October):
- In the morning, people could visit our computer
centre, using the computers and enjoy playing some
computer games. At the same time, they could come
to the language laboratory and read books, magazines,
newspapers...
- At lunch time, we’ll organize an international
barbecue with food and drinks for everyone.
- In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy playing tennis and
football with the local teams (please contact us
previously if you are interested in this)
- And finally, our orchestra will give a good concert, at
19:00, at the Concert Hall of the College.
In addition, during all day, a photograph exhibition of
our College activities could be visited in the library.
We hope that the students and the local people will
enjoy the Day together.
We’ll put posters with the programme in the shops.
