1 SINFONIA
1 SYMPHONY
ATTO PRIMO
Scena Prima
Piccoli sedili e sgabelli. Cavalletto con tele da
dipingere.
Salvator Rosa è seduto intento a dipingere. Gennariello
Or vi comprendo... Una assai dolce cosa
Dev’essere per voi le mille volte
Ritrarre il volto della donna amata...
Come vi invidio!...
Salvatore - (alzandosi)
Olà!... forse saresti
Innamorato?...
Gennariello - Sotto il ciel ridente
Di Napoli, v’è forse alcun garzone
Dell’età mia che non conosca amore?...
Salvatore - (ridendo) Un fanciullo!...
Gennariello - (con pretensione)
ACT ONE
First Scene
A painter’s workshop
Two doors, one in the middle, the other on the right.
Several paintings and sketches hang on the walls. On
the left, a table with marble busts and musical instruments.
Small chairs and stools. Easels with white canvases.
Salvator Rosa is sitting, busy painting. Gennariello
stands behind him, observing the painting.
2 Salvatore - Well, Gennariello?... You have nothing
to say about my painting?...
Gennariello - Your sky seems
too heavy... and the sea too gloomy...
Salvatore - That’s because there is a storm brewing.
Gennariello - And also...
Forgive me, Salvatore, but your women
all look alike.
Salvatore - That means
that there is only one woman in my heart.
Gennariello - (taking a step back)
Now I understand... A pleasant thing indeed
it must be for you to paint over and over
the features of the woman you love...
How I envy you!
Salvatore - (getting up)
Ho!... Are you by any chance
in love?...
Gennariello - Under the bright sky
of Naples, is there any young man
of my age who is not in love?
Salvatore - (laughing) You’re just a boy!...
Gennariello - (pretentiously)
