Art. 11. H.H. promises, that he will neither directly nor indirectly<br />

impose any restrictions on the trade and commerce of<br />

the country, and particularly, that he will not impose any<br />

sumptuary laws, whereby the internal trade may <strong>be</strong> affected.<br />

Art. 12. The forts, the bridges and the public roads shall <strong>be</strong><br />

constructed and repaired at the expense of H.H. the Soosoohonan<br />

but under the superintendance of the servants of the British<br />

Government.<br />

Art. 13. H.H. engages neither to repair old, nor to construct<br />

new fortifications within the precints of His authority.<br />

Art. 14. Whenever materials, labourers or provisions are required<br />

by the British Government, H.H. engages to lend His<br />

ready and cordial assistance towards procuring them; while the<br />

British Government promise on their part, that whatever is<br />

thus furnished shall <strong>be</strong> paid for at fair and equitable rates.<br />

Art. 15, H.H. acknowledges the supremacy of the British Government<br />

over the whole Island of Java and the right of interference<br />

on their part, whenever the situation of the country may<br />

demand it.<br />

Art. 16. Whenever the Honorable the Lieutenant-Governor in<br />

Council may signify to H.H. that it is necessary to introducé<br />

any regulations for the <strong>be</strong>tter ordering of any departments of<br />

the Government, H.H. shall immediately give directions for<br />

carrying the same into effect; and in case such directions are<br />

not given within twenty days after they shall have <strong>be</strong>en formally<br />

communicated to him, then the Hon. the Lieutenant-Governor in<br />

Council shall <strong>be</strong> at li<strong>be</strong>rty to issue the necessary orders for that<br />

purpose without further delay or reference.<br />

Art. 17. H.H. promises to pay strict attention to any advice<br />

which the British Government may occasionally judge it necessary<br />

to give him with a view to the improvement of the revenues,<br />

finances or administration of justice, or in any other object<br />

connected with the advancement of His Highness's interest or<br />

the welfare of his pe<strong>op</strong>le.
