By performing a participant observation both in a small scale house and in a nursing home
with small scale care, the leading question was answered.
The secondary investigation made clear that there the different factors influencing the level of
small scale can be divided in three main factors:
• The core values of the small scale, which take form through the decoration of the
physical living surroundings;
- domesticity, safe and familiar surrounding
- recognition
- clear organisation
- one’s own world of experience
- imitate a normal situation
- optimal privacy for the commune
• The character of the care;
Small scale care is integral care leaded by demand
• The employee’s attitude;
Small scale care needs an employee that has an integral, demand leaded, person
or relation leaded attitude
The secondary investigation made clear that the employee’s attitude is the decisive factor. The
character of the care and the decoration of the physical living surroundings are preconditions.
The more the preconditions meet the needs of small scale, the easier it gets for the employees
to fill in the small scale in the care. However, if both the physical living surroundings and
character of the care are perfectly small scale, but the employee doesn’t fill in the small scale,
you cannot speak of small scale care.
It doesn’t make a lot of difference if a commune is living in a large scale institution or in a
small scale house. If the home meets the core values of the small scale and the care is integral
and leaded by demand, the most important factor is the employee’s attitude.
