Art „Yes, we can“-Ausdruck.
Aufnahmen vom Markt in Lomé.
Up der Kirchtürme.
sichtbar. Plötzlich wippen von unten undefinierbare braune Stan-
Meanwhile I try to convey to the participants that learning to op-
erate a camera means especially learning to see. And doing so,
to sustain yourself on everything that is already there before us
– in the cinema, in all the arts. colours, framing, rhythm, melody,
choreography, structure, tales, poetry... life itself sustains us. That
finding your own style, your personal signature, also means integrating
that which is most precious to us. That sounds like a
credo, right. But since this trip to Africa, I’m not afraid of pathos
anymore.
In the end we present five short films in the courtyard of the
Goethe-Institut in Lomé. The participants are still editing their
material right up to the last minute. You can read the learning
success from the 10 day Image en Mouvement workshop directly
in their faces: A kind of “Yes, we can!” expression. That inspiring
experience that so much is possible in a very limited time: When
the group functions well, with the enthusiasm, the curiosity, the
know-how and the will to create something together.
The filmmakers bring friends and acquaintances to the screening.
Journalists from all areas also come along, while the local
children sit down on the ground in the front row. When the man
in Le pARDOn forgives his unfaithful fiancée, the audience jump
up enthusiastically off their chairs. The MAKInG OF pleases the
children because they recognise themselves in it, and it proves
to be a joyful, rhythmic souvenir for all those involved. One of
the most enduring images is in Le cRI DeS enFAnTS. It consists
of documentary shots of the market in Lomé. The main axis of
the Grand Marché is enclosed by the cathedral which was built
and consecrated by German colonial rulers at the end of the 19th
century, and it is one of the largest buildings in the city. The first
shot in the film scene is a close-up of the church tower. Then the
