Establishment of cyclist accommodation
and storage facility in Halászi

Aim of the project
To develop the tourist program supply in order to promote cyclist tourism jointly with the Szigetköz Bicycle Road in Halászi,
in the „gateway of Szigetköz” within the framework of EURO VELO 6. To enhance the previously existing co-operation with
Halászi partner town, with Berg partner association and to create new ways of co-operation. A further aim is to start a
dialogue on both sides of the border, which is based on a common connection point, on cyclist tourism.
Content of the project
Leaders of cyclist associations, small businesses
interested in providing better services for cyclist tourists
and representatives of related organisations participated
in two study trips. The aim of viewing the Lower-Austria
and Lake Fertô area bicycle road was to learn about the
national opportunities and local features and to compare
them with the experience gained on the Austrian side.
At the workshop held in Szigetköz, in Halászi the study
trip was evaluated and plans were made for further
co-operation. In the framework of infrastructure development
in Halászi, the local government-owned sport field and
exchange rooms, located next to the Mosoni-Danube
were converted into accommodation facilities for bikers,
furthermore covered bike storage facilities were also
established next to the building.
Results of the project
Tourist product supply was expanded, which offers
higher quality services for cyclist tourists. Co-operation
between local governments, small entrepreneurs, civil
organisations and the population became more intense,
which provides further opportunities for other initiatives.
The activities contributed to the development of the
cross-border co-operation. By the establishment of the
accommodation facility, the number of guest nights spent
by cyclist tourists in the region increased, therefore the
natural beauty of Szigetköz, local culture and gastronomy
became more widely known.
