Piano Festival at Liszt Ferenc’s
Birthplace
Beneficiary:
Liszt Ferenc Cultural Society
9400 Sopron, Új utca 4.
Subsidy amount: 252 677 EUR
Aim of the project
To improve the cultural tourism related to Liszt Ferenc’s art in the region of the composer’s birthplace, thus to extend
the length of stay of the tourists visiting the region and to address new groups of tourists. To continue and extend the Lisztcult
living in Sopron and neighbourhood for several decades and the tourism development programmes in relation to
Liszt Ferenc running for several years, through strengthening the already existing cross-border relations and taking new
relations. The project was directly aimed at organising cross-border cultural events referring to Liszt Ferenc (concerts, study
tours, exhibitions); as a special task the preparation, planning, sales and conduct of the ‘Liszt Ferenc’ Piano Festival in 2006.
Content of the project
The tasks undertaken in the project were prepared
and conducted in the office ensured for the Society to
the successful project management, and in addition
also the two-round Liszt-contest, and the 2007 festival
programmes were also prepared. After the conclusion
of the project the society can cover the office costs
accounted in the tender from additional municipality and
other subsidies. In the project framework the concerts of
the Liszt Ferenc Piano Festival was planned jointly with
the Austrian partner; this involved the consultation on the
venues, dates, programmes and on the artists performing.
The Austrian partner played an active part in the conduct
and preparation of the Austrian concerts. It was managed
to involve additional partners into the project (Mozarthaus
Wien, Haydn Festspiele Eisenstadt). Beyond the events
realized jointly with the project partners in Austria it was
managed to cooperate in the planning of the long-term
cultural-tourist cooperation opportunities, which extended
to other fields of the cultural heritage of the region besides
the Liszt relations. There were 2,100 persons at the
14 music events, many of them were tourists. During
the time of the Liszt Festival in 2006 a new concert piano
was purchased and a temporary exhibition held. During
the programme period the different events were promoted
with different marketing means (posters, programme
brochures, leaflets, invitations, sign boards, etc.).
Content of the project
In accordance with the ideas described in the tender
project the events referring to Liszt Ferenc’ cultural
heritage were focussed on in the region in recent times.
The programmes foreseen in the tender were realised
and it was managed in cooperation with the project partner
to establish the operating network on the two sides of
the border, through which mutual events can be held in
future as well. The tender project ended with the important
benefit that the Liszt Ferenc Cultural Society could act as
a consultation forum among the programmes of similar
profile. Consequently the strategic cooperation were
established during the 18 months of the project, which
served as the base to the accomplishment of further
medium- and long-term targets.
