Aim of the project
To organise the great events of historical relevance to be held in the region of Szombathely and Oberwart, and to
manage mutually the individual cultural heritage connected. A further aim is to set up a tourism product supply, based on
the already existing cultural supply, built on historical foundations, built up around a uniform organisation principle, in
the field of cultural tourism. In connection with that, the project managers would like to improve the joint tourism-purpose
marketing of the border region and to harmonise and concentrate the resources that have been targeted at information
dissemination and promotion activities that have been sprinkled so far.
Content of the project
The cultural faculties of the larger area were presented;
the historical tool park of the events could be developed
based on harmonised marketing activities. The applicant
timed the presentation of part of the results for the period
of the Savaria Historical Carnival, which were achieved
using the funds acquired at the tender. The eighty-five
wood pavilion and fair tents were put up in the Fair of the
Old Town (Öreg Város Vására) at Fô tér, which will serve
as a uniform, sophisticated background for the historically
inspired events of the region. In addition, a hundred new
colourful, historical flags decorated the city, by creating a
carnival atmosphere in Thököly Imre utca, Kossuth Lajos
utca, Rákóczi Ferenc utca and Széchenyi István utca and
at Fô tér. A European-level exposition installation was also
purchased: with 2 large and 3 smaller walls, a complete
service block, mobile objects on a total surface of 30 m 2 .
Owing to the project partners, access was provided to the
tourism supply of the region at the carnival. The shared
presentation stand of Oberwart-Bad Tatzmannsdorfi
Tourism Region and the Szombathely Tourinform Office
was set up in Thököly utca. In addition to the new marketing
publications, wine tasting and local information pools were
looking forward to the interested visitors.
The results of the project
The Austrian-Hungarian border-region community relations
were strengthened, within them the co-operation of
organisations deploying activities especially in tourism
and culture. The popularity of the region was improved
via image consolidation, the number of tourists visiting
increased which results in higher revenues coming from
tourism.
