Seven-fold country - without borders
Beneficiary:
Ôri Foundation
9941 Ôriszentpéter, Városszer 116.
Subsidy amount: 130 320 EUR
Aim of the project
To base the economic development through the harmonized, complex development of the product offer of cultural and
nature tourism on the section of the border region, which is marked by the area of Ôrség Nature Park on the Hungarian
side. An additional aim is to draft the uniform marketing strategy of three regional, multicultural events (Hétrétország
– festival, Virágzás Napja (Day of Blooming), Természetesen Ôrség (Naturally Ôrség!), to develop its infrastructural
background, to introduce them to the international market; to organise the cross-border network operation of the local
tourism service providers – based on the ‘Hétrétország’ model. To strengthen the cohesion of a small cultural region
being newly formed through the new form of cooperation.
Content of the project
After having signed the subsidy agreement an overall
marketing strategy was defined. The formulation of the
cross-border service provider network set as the project
aim started with the organisation of the programme
‘Hétrétország – a szerek és porták fesztiválja 2005’.
In the course of the project realization the Hétrétország
festival was held twice. This regional all-art festival
established a network of culture-liaisons, and made them
active in the border region on one hand, and focused on
the existing local values on the other, and forming them
into an organised tourist attraction created the network
of ‘Nyitott Porták’ (Open Gates or Open Homes).
The network connection is highlighted with external,
formal signs as well: Hétrétország-logo in the form of a
flag, and the uniform portfolio made with the use of the
logo helped the joint appearance on the tourist market.
One of the important target groups of the marketing
activity was the population living in about 50-km vicinity
of Ôrség. The events under the title Virágzás Napja
(Day of Blooming) and Természetesen Ôrség! (Naturally
Ôrség!), were also held. With the contribution of Austrian
and Slovenian partners the network Nyitott Porták united
50 locations in 2005, which received the visitors during
the 10 days of the festival. As a consequence of
the endeavour of the regional hosts to networking,
the Union of Hosts in Ôrség and Surroundings was
established, which played an important role in the regional
communication. The regional players (hosts, cultural liaisons
42
and organisers) of cultural tourism established their
proposals for the 2006 programme, summarising and
completing them in the publication ‘Ôrség 2006’, which
was edited and published in 10,000 copies. A study was
made on the conceptual questions of establishing the
nature garden in Ôriszentpéter and the brick burner.
Six colour publications were prepared in a total of 23,000
copies for promotion purposes, 800 posters showing the
events, and a website was also created. Under the aegis
of a media workshop, a radio training course and video
media camp were organised. Technical equipment for
lighting, stage and sound were also purchased in a
public procurement procedure.
Results of the project
Due to the multiplication effect of tourism, the economy in
the Hungarian-Austrian border region became more active,
so did the utilisation of the local lodgings, hospitality units.
The marketing strategy formulated contributes to the
success of the future events serving to make this region
known. In the course of project implementation cooperation
between the local and foreign participants became close
and fruitful.
