Aim of the project
To extend the joint tourist offer supply of the Austrian-Hungarian border region, to develop cross-border tourism, and to
formulate new and further developed tourist products in the field of biking, cultural and nature tourism. Furthermore it is
complex tourism information for the tourists arriving in Sopron. In the long run, it is aimed to increase income coming
from tourism in the border region.
Content of the project
The beneficiary ensured to formulate the production plans
from own sources. A public procurement procedure was
conducted, after which the construction of Deák Square
Tourist and Recreation Centre was completed.
The publication, titled ‘Biking in Sopron and its Surronding’
was produced in 45,000 copies in Hungarian, 10,000 in
German and 5,000 copies in English, and 60,000 maps
10 October 2006 attended by the representatives of the
tourist trade circles from Sopron and Burgenland, by the
town management and the non-profit specialists of the town.
Results of the project
By constructing Deák Square tourist centre – in addition
to 4 new jobs – a biking service unit was established on
gross 198 square metres, which provides bikers with
maximum infrastructure. Along the bicycle roads there
are possibilities for having a rest in the surrounding
countryside: 10 resting places were built, 100 (11x10) bike
holders, 20 benches, 8 tables, 12 waste bins were placed
and 5 drinking wells were made. The biking tourists can
get information on the complex tourist offer and the tourist
product offer that has also been extended. The foreign
tourists can receive information in foreign language
through the publications. As an additional result, the
regional tourist service providers can expect a boom in
turnover and as a new service there is the opportunity for
them to appear at the tourist centre with their information
materials.
