Aim of the project
On the Hungarian side of the cross-border region the establishment of a cycle rental system, which provides cycle rental
opportunity in such a way, that with the help of sub-centres (10) the pickup and drop-off of cycles can take place at
different places. Rental opportunity will increase the tourist attraction among the cyclists using the cycles based on an
„impulse” decision. In the framework of the project after the planning phase the Kôszeg Logistics Centre will be built and
the necessary equipment, software will be procured for the centre and sub-centres and an intense promotional activity
will be launched for the purposes of regional tourist marketing.
Content of the project
The applicant prepared a marketing plan for the clarification
of the rental system promotion and services, which was
introduced in the framework of an opening event. Jointly
with the existing regional cycle tourist office in Kôszeg, at
the Boating Lake a 2-floor Cycle Rental Centre was built
and on the related area park landscaping activities (soil
replacement, planting of trees) took place. In the central
building a complete, high-level service was established
with cycle washing facility, quality tools and repair stands.
They have established the technical conditions of 10 regional
rental locations, which will be used as cycle pickup and
drop-off points for tourists. The storage facility shall cater
for safe storage of 30 cycles at a time and they also need
to provide tools necessary for repair. 60 cycles have already
been procured, and the delivery of the necessary information
technology equipment completed. The applicant also
established a www.pannonbike.hu web site, where widescope
information can be obtained about the project,
tour routes and various programmes.
Results of the project
Cyclists and cyclist tourists received detailed information
and motivation to spend their leisure time in a healthier
way. The demand has increased for catering and
accommodation opportunities in the region. In order to
promote the adoption of cycling culture in the region,
the change of approach has started, furthermore close
co-operation was established with the partners through
the cross-border services.
