Action Research<br />
Introduction<br />
This is one of the SEDA-PDF named awards available<br />
through SEDA’s Professional Development Framework. It is<br />
of particular relevance to a range of staff who support student<br />
learning on higher education awards.<br />
Aims<br />
The SEDA-PDF named award Action Research enables an<br />
individual to select, investigate and enhance a chosen area<br />
or aspect of work through the completion of an action research<br />
cycle.<br />
Audience<br />
This named award is applicable to a wide range of academic<br />
and academic related staff working in higher education.<br />
Those who have any role which supports or enables learning<br />
and/or discipline based educational research will complete<br />
a small scale investigation into a selected topic of professional<br />
practice. An action research cycle will drive the investigation<br />
to completion. Any associated ethical issues will<br />
need to be identified and appropriate institutional approval<br />
gained for completion.<br />
Values<br />
Award recipients will have shown how their work is informed<br />

Award recipients will be able to<br />
1. Identify their own professional development goals, directions<br />

3. Undertake appropriate development activities<br />
4. Review their development and practice, and the relations<br />
between them.<br />
Specialist Outcomes<br />
Additionally, award recipients will be able to<br />
5. Select an area of practice for development<br />
6. Provide a rationale for the choice<br />
7. Complete a cycle of action research in the selected area<br />
8. Evaluate the (potential) impact of the action research<br />
cycle<br />
9. Reflect upon the benefits of engaging with others in this<br />
work<br />

Developing Leaders<br />
Introduction<br />
This is one of the SEDA-PDF named awards available<br />
through SEDA’s Professional Development Framework. It is<br />
of particular relevance to colleagues who are in, or aspire to<br />
be in, a Leadership position in the post-compulsory and<br />
adult education and lifelong learning sector.<br />
Aims<br />
• to support individuals in their professional development<br />
as leaders and managers in an educational context,<br />
• to recogniser individual progress, practice and professional<br />
achievement,<br />
• to enhance professional practice,<br />
• to encourage the development of learning communities<br />
and the sharing of good practice,<br />
• to enhance the experience of students,<br />
• to promote the development of a cadre of gifted professionals<br />
with knowledge, skills and attributes to effectively<br />
lead, nurture and guide change and development in<br />
the sector and in their chosen profession.<br />
Audience<br />
This award is for those who are aspiring to, entering or developing<br />
positions of managerial or leadership responsibility.<br />
Participants will be from any profession or discipline in<br />
the sector, and from both academic and support services.<br />
Values, Core Development Outcomes and Specialist Outcomes<br />
The Professional Development Framework (PDF) identifies<br />
outcomes and values which any locally designed Developing<br />
Leaders Programme must show that it assesses. We<br />
believe that there is a real value in the process of develo-<br />
