Harald Büttner, Vaclav Veigl and Alexandra Löffler are the winners!

The Heinz Group has been
organizing for thirty-nine years an
annual table tennis tournament
for company employees playing
for the Heinz Cup. In the last
year this became even somewhat
international.
This year thirty-two table tennis fans of
the Heinz companies in Kleintettau,
Piesau, Neuhaus, Hranice (CZ) and
even from the USA came to the
school sports hall in Windheim to
play against other hobby players and
club players for the Master Cup.
The tournament officials, Jörg Fehn
and Karl-Heinz Sladek, thanked the
colleagues of the Table Tennis Club
Windheim for providing the playing
hall, equipment and tables. They
also thanked particularly Mr. Carl-
Aug. Heinz, company owner and
manager, who insisted on competing
himself. Beside the nice cups many
other attractive special prizes were
offered and the participants were
invited to a nice get-together after the
award ceremony.
And special welcome was addressed
to seven colleagues of Heinz-Glas
Decor including their interpreter and
participant in the ladies competition,
Paula Horackova, from Hranice/
Czech Republic, as well as Clay
Heinz who had the longest way to
travel coming directly from the USA.
Alexandra Löffler was the new
winner of the seven ladies without
defeat. The ladies winner of last year
Manuela Stärker finished second.
The US American Adair Heinz
repeated with her last year third
place position.
Amongst the thirteen hobby players,
Vaclaw Vaigl from the Czech
Republic (last year second) won the
cup without defeat and with only one
set loss. Murat Agac proved that he
is not only an excellent soccer player
but he can also play good table tennis
since this was his first competition and
he came away in second place. The
third place winner was also a Czech
colleague, Miroslav Horak.
“It is important, as tournament officials,
that new faces are participating in
our tournament,” Sladek said. It’s not
important if you win or lose but it’s
more important to have the courage to
take on the challenge. Therefore some
first time players who had participated
in the tournament enjoyed the table
tennis matches so much that they have
joined the club as active players.
Amongst the twelve club players
who played in two preliminary round
groups, the competition was quite
exciting. Especially since the dominant
winner Jörg Fehn was not participating
this year, and due to the fact there were
at least five good players fighting for
the cup. In the final round there was
a real point fight on each table. A
happy ending came for Harald Büttner
(last year second), from Sport Club
Haßlach, who lost only one match -
against Andreas Zipfel. Andreas Zipfel
from TSV Ebersdorf placed second. He
has been active the longest time and
now, after thirty years, has changed his
play material and rose to the top. Third
place was Volker Wich, the third district
league player (Wacker Haig) who, after
a relatively weak preliminary round,
played much stronger and reached
equivalent points to Andreas Neubauer
from TSV Windheim.
The companies table tennis tournament
has been organized by Carl-August
Heinz since 1972. The event enjoys
great popularity and is one of the
many events contributing to a good
working environment.
