It is important to note that the ring forms,
microgametocytes, and macrogametocytes of P.
vivax and P. ovale, are usually difficult to distinguish
because of their remarkable similarities.
The mature schizont may ultimately be the
morphologic form of choice for examination.
Because there are definite differences in this
form among the two species, the prospects of
proper specific identification are much more
promising.
