Varieties listed without value for cultivation and use
According to the seed act varieties can be listed without fulfi lling the requirement of
the agricultural value if they have already been listed with agricultural value in another
EU member state. These varieties cannot be described in their valuable characteristics
because they were not included in the trials for value of cultivation and use.
- Varieties listed for exportation
- Varieties (inbred lines, hybrids) intended solely as components for
fi nal varieties
- Conservation varieties
In all three cases the value for cultivation and use is no requirement for acceptance
and the varieties cannot be described in their valuable characteristics.
Explanations to the tabular variety descriptions
A tabular variety description stands at the beginning of each species’ chapter. In this
table all varieties listed with value for cultivation and use as well as the listed EU-varieties
(see above) are described in their valuable characteristics. The description of
characters is based on a 1 – 9 scale. A high fi gure indicates that the variety shows the
character to a high degree and a low fi gure indicates that a variety shows the character
to a low degree. 5 stands for medium expression. The classifi cation of the varieties
relates always to the whole range of varieties of the respective species.
A description is drawn up only if the data base from value trials of the Federal Plant
Variety Offi ce and/or the federal states variety trials is suffi cient. A dash indicates no
data are available.
For EU-varieties a complete description is often not possible due to the lack of results.
The description of the valuable characteristics is based on results without fungicide
applications.
Varieties of sugar beet are trialled in two intensity levels, with and without fungicide
treatment.
