Edinburgh Convention Bureau
Zuwachs
auch in schwierigen Zeiten
Wie das Edinburgh Convention
Bureau berichtet,
konnte trotz des schwierigen
wirtschaftlichem Umfelds
der durch Kongresse
und Tagungen generierte Umsatz
im vergangenen Geschäftsjahr
auf 74,2 Millionen
Pfund gesteigert werden.
Dies bedeutet in 2009/10 einen
Zuwachs von 700.000
Pfund gegenüber dem vorhergehenden
Geschäftsjahr.
Dank erfolgreicher Akquisearbeit,
so das ECB, sei es gelungen,
im genannten Zeitraum
257 Meetingveranstaltungen
mit zusammen
58.277 Delegierten in die
schottische Metropole zu holen.
Im Vorjahr waren noch
200 Veranstaltungen mit insgesamt
52.077 Teilnehmern
gezählt worden.
Von besonderer Bedeutung
war dabei der Markt der Verbandskongresse,
auf deren
Konto 179 Veranstaltungen
mit 47.885 Delegierten und
einem Umsatz von 64,3 Millionen
Pfund gingen. Auch für
das Jahr 2010/11 hat sich das
ECB weiteres Wachstum
zum Ziel gesetzt. Ein zweiprozentiges
Wachstum, das man
derzeit anpeilt, würde der
Stadt Einnahmen in Höhe von
75,7 Millionen Pfund besche-
ren. Sue Stuart, Chief Executive
des ECB, zu den Ergebnissen:
,,Wir freuen uns natürlich
darüber, dass wir trotz der
für alle nicht einfachen Bedingungen
das Wachstum der
vergangenen Jahre beibehalten
konnten. Das haben wir
nicht zuletzt harter Arbeit und
exzellenter Recherchearbeit
zu verdanken, mit der wir
neue Veranstaltungen identifizieren,
die wir nach Edinburgh
holen können. Zugleich
sind die Resultate auch ein
Beleg für den guten Ruf Edinburghs
als Zentrum akademischer
Forschung und Entwicklung,ins-
besondere in
den Bereichen
Medizin,
Life Sciences
und Computertechnik. Zugleich
hat die Stadt ein Image
hoher Qualität und eines gutenPreis-Leistungs-Verhältnisses.“
Auch für das laufende Geschäftsjahr
ist Sue Stuart zuversichtlich:
,,Wir werden uns
zwar auch weiterhin in einem
schwierigen Umfeld bewegen,
sind aber zuversichtlich,
dass wir mit zielgerichtetem
Vorgehen und sorgfältiger Recherche
weiteres Wachstum
erreichen werden.“ KA
Important
association market
Edinburgh Convention Bureau
Growth despite
tough economic climate
According to statements
by the Edinburgh Convention
Bureau, they were
able to raise the turnover generated
with congresses and
conventions in the past business
year to BRP 74.2 million
in spite of the difficult economic
environment. In absolute
terms, that’s a plus of
BRP 700,000 in 2009/2010 as
compared to the prior fiscal
year. The ECB points out that
they were
able to host altogether
257
meeting
events with a
total of 58,277 delegates at
the Scottish metropolis in that
period of time. The year before,
that figure had been at
200 events with 52,077 participants.
Association congresses are a
significant business factor for
the ECB; this particular market
accounted for 179 events
with 47,885 delegates and a
turnover in the range of BRP
64.3 million. And the bureau
has set its sights for further
growth in 2010/2011. If they
actually achieve the targeted
two percent increase, the
center would earn the local
economy BRP 75.7 million.
Sue Stuart, ECB Chief Executive,
commented: “We are
delighted to have sustained
our recent growth pattern in
what have been very difficult
economic conditions for everyone.
It is all down to very
hard work and excellent research
to identify new events
we can target for the city. Our
results also demonstrate
Edinburgh’s reputation as a
center of excellence in the
fields of academic research
and development, particularly
in medicine, life sciences and
computing. The city is also
seen as a high quality, valuefor-money
destination.“
Sue Stuart is also confident as
relates to the ongoing business
year: "Looking ahead to
next year we still expect to
have to compete in difficult
economic conditions. However
we are confident we can
continue to achieve growth
with a focused approach and
diligent research." KA
