OBLIGATION KNIORTS OP THE SUN.<br />

I promise and swear, in the presence of the<br />

Great Architect of the Universe, and of all the brethren<br />

here present, never to take arms against my country,<br />

directly or indirectly, in any conspiracy whatever.<br />

I furthermore promise and swear never to reveal any<br />

of the secrets of the degree of Knights of the Sun, to<br />

any person or persons unless duly qualified to receive<br />

the same, and never give my consent to the admission<br />

of any one into our mysteries, until after the most<br />

scrupulous circumspection and full knowledge of his<br />

life and conversation, and who has given at all times full<br />

proof of his zeal and fervent attachment for the order,<br />

and a submission at all times to the consistory of Princes<br />

of the Royal Secret.<br />

I furthermore promise and swear never to confer the<br />

degree of Knights of the Sun, without having a permission<br />

in writing from the Grand Consistory or from a<br />

Grand Inspector or Deputy.<br />

I furthermore promise and swear to redouble my zeal<br />

for’ all my brethren, Knights and Princes, and should I<br />

willfully violate this my obligation, may my brethren<br />

Peize me and thrust my tongue through with a red ho~<br />

iron, to pluck out my eyes and deprive me of smelling<br />

and seeing, to cut off my hands and expose me in that<br />

condition in the field to be devoured by the voracious<br />

animals, and if none can be found, may the lightning of<br />

heaven execute on me the same vengeance. So may<br />

God, maintain me in righteousness and equity. Amen.<br />

forehead, invests him with the collar and jewel, and<br />
