by implication, is base and dishonorable; without truth<br />

slanderer and deserves to be branded as such: Do you<br />

recognize the truth of these principles?<br />

Grand Master here present, promise and vow that I will<br />

never reveal any of the secrets of this degree to any<br />

person or persons, except to one duly authorized to receive<br />

them.<br />

I do furthermore promise and swear that I will hereafter<br />

make these virtues, which compose the five masonic<br />

squares and three masonic triangles of this lodge, the<br />

rule and guide of my life, conduct and conversation,<br />

and will endeavor to extend and increase the practice<br />

of them among men; and particularly that my steps<br />

shall ever be guided and directed by the nine great<br />

lights of a Grand Masler, as I shall hereafter be informed.<br />

[furthermore promise and swear that I will not rule<br />

and govern my lodge in a haughty manner, but will<br />

use my best endeavors to preserve peace and order and<br />

harmony among the membcrs. To all these and those,<br />

[ do most soleni.nly and sincerely promise and swear 5<br />

binding myself under no less a penalty than that of<br />

being dishonored and despised by all masons. So help<br />

me God.<br />

Venerable Master—Arise my brother and receive the<br />

signs, grips and words of this degree. (Candidate<br />

rises and receives the following:)<br />

FIRST SIGN.<br />

Form four squares; first by placing<br />

right hand on the heart, the fingers<br />

together, the thumb separate, which makes<br />

two squares; second by placing the left<br />

hand on the lips, the thumb separate,<br />

which makes a third square; third by<br />

bringing the heels together, the feet open<br />

on a square.
