METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION<br />
WHO WILL PROVIDE THE EVIDENCE?<br />
• The <strong>Ph</strong>D students will provide evidence through their written and oral representations of their work.<br />
WHO WILL COLLECT THE EVIDENCE?<br />
• Evidence will be collected by the student’s dissertation committee members.<br />
WHERE:<br />
• The Dissertation will be filed with the University Graduate School. The General and F<strong>in</strong>al Exams will<br />
be conducted on the NMSU campus<br />
WHEN:<br />
• The students complete their general exam<strong>in</strong>ation around the time they complete their formal<br />
coursework.<br />
• The students submit their completed dissertations and take their f<strong>in</strong>al exams <strong>in</strong> the same semester,<br />
which is typically their last semester (except <strong>in</strong> cases where they enroll for graduation only <strong>in</strong> the<br />
semester follow<strong>in</strong>g the completion of the dissertation).<br />
HOW:<br />
• Students request a formal general exam date with their committee members and the graduate<br />
school.<br />
• Students will submit their dissertation to their committee members approximately 1 month prior to<br />
the dissertation (f<strong>in</strong>al) exam. After an <strong>in</strong>itial 2-week review period the students will request an<br />
exam<strong>in</strong>ation date from the committee members and schedule the exam with the graduate school.<br />
• The oral general exam and the f<strong>in</strong>al exam are typically 90-m<strong>in</strong> sessions that <strong>in</strong>clude a presentation<br />
followed by a period of questions and answers.<br />
