J.7 REQUEST FOR SHORTENED SCHOOL DAYS<br />

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE:<br />

A shortened school day is being requested for students with disabilities. These requests<br />

represent the recommendation <strong>of</strong> an Admission and Release Committee (ARC) based on data<br />

from the current Individual <strong>Education</strong> Program and a physician’s recommendation for each<br />

student. A plan has been developed to address each student’s return to a full school day. The<br />

ARC will continue to address this possibility with input from the physician.<br />

PROPOSAL;<br />

1. Due to this student’s heightened anxiety regarding the school setting and her<br />

severe separation anxiety disorder, it’s been recommended that this student<br />

attends a shortened school day by her psychiatrist. The normal school day is<br />

from 7:45 to 2:35, this student’s school day will be from 7:45 to 11:00.<br />

2. This student experiences stress and anxiety and can have emotional outburst<br />

and/or shut down. This can further disrupt his academic performance. The<br />

normal school day is from 7:45 to 2:35, this student’s school day will be from<br />

7:45 to 10:45.<br />
