K.17 APPROVAL OF A BG-1 PROJECT APPLICATION
FOR THE RENOVATION
OF JAMES LANE ALLEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: The renovation of the existing James Lane Allen Elementary School
is listed as priority 2c.1 on FCPS’s 2009 District Facility Plan. The Director of Facility Design and
Construction has drafted a preliminary cost estimate for the renovation of the existing building and the
construction of a small addition, yielding a final project of approximately 69,236 SF to serve 600 students.
The program is consistent with other recent FCPS elementary school projects. Project cost estimates are
based on the most recent construction bids and include: design and financing fees; furnishings; surveys;
and other miscellaneous costs. The project design must begin now in order to meet an expected
completion date of late 2013. The Board approved Moody- Nolan Architects as the design consultant for
this project at its February 28, 2011 meeting.
PROPOSAL: Based on the rationale above, a BG-1 Project Application is required as follows:

“approve a BG-1 Project Application for the renovation and addition at James Lane Allen Elementary
School in the amount of $13,687,188 (Thirteen Million, Six Hundred Eighty-seven Thousand, One
Hundred Eighty-eight Dollars), subject to the approval of the Kentucky Department of Education, District
Facilities Branch, per the provisions of 702 KAR 4:160.”

approves a BG-1 Project Application for the renovation and addition at James Lane Allen Elementary
School in the amount of $13,687,188 (Thirteen Million, Six Hundred Eighty-seven Thousand, One
Hundred Eighty-eight Dollars), subject to the approval of the Kentucky Department of Education, District
Facilities Branch, per the provisions of 702 KAR 4:160.
