J.13 APPROVAL OF A PROPOSED CHANGE ORDER (NO. NINE)<br />
TO THE CONTRACT FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE<br />
LOCUST TRACE AGRISCIENCE FARM (PHASE 2)<br />

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: The construction <strong>of</strong> a new 225-student Agriscience education center<br />
to be located on 82.28 acres (surplus Federal property) on Leestown Road is listed as priority 1a.2 on<br />
FCPS’s 2009 District Facility Plan. A team lead by Tate Hill Jacobs Architects designed a preliminary<br />
building program for a classroom building <strong>of</strong> 43,081 sf and an arena building <strong>of</strong> 19,257 sf, for a total <strong>of</strong><br />
62,338 SF, based upon other recent FCPS technical school projects. A contract with Messer Construction<br />
Company in the amount <strong>of</strong> $14,930,200 was accepted and approved by the <strong>Board</strong> in a meeting held on<br />
June 28, 2010. The Department <strong>of</strong> Physical Support Services, the design consultants and the local<br />
building code <strong>of</strong>ficials have reviewed the progress <strong>of</strong> the work. Changes to the original plans and<br />
specifications have been necessary in order to satisfy the requirements described below. Approval <strong>of</strong><br />
these changes allows the work to be completed.<br />
COST: The description and cost <strong>of</strong> these items are summarized as follows:<br />

Provide labor, materials and equipment to install<br />
Owner-provided paper towel, toilet paper and soap<br />
dispensers; add:<br />
Credit to DPO (Overhead Door Co.) due to deletion <strong>of</strong><br />

A 5% contingency ($746,510) is included in the project's available funds. There have been eight previous<br />
change orders on this project. The cost <strong>of</strong> the current and all changes orders represents a 2.07%<br />
increase in the construction cost.<br />

(One Thousand, Eight Hundred Thirty Dollars) and a credit to the Direct Purchase Orders in the amount <strong>of</strong><br />
$1,036.00 (One Thousand, Thirty-six Dollars), subject to the approval <strong>of</strong> the Kentucky Department <strong>of</strong><br />
<strong>Education</strong>, District Facilities Branch, per the provisions <strong>of</strong> 702 KAR 4:160.”<br />
