THE CANDIDATES NOMINATED<br />

most comforting <strong>of</strong> all who have helped has been Charles Fairbanks <strong>of</strong> Indiana,<br />

whose nomination I second.<br />

FAVORITE SONS ARE DROPPED<br />

Chairman Cannon asked if there were any further nomina-<br />

tions, and then said that <strong>by</strong> unanimous consent the further<br />

call <strong>of</strong> the States would be dispensed with. Senator Depew<br />

then asked unanimous consent that the roll call be suspended<br />

and that Senator Fairbanks' nomination be made <strong>by</strong> a unanimous<br />

vote. W. P. Miles <strong>of</strong> Nebraska objected and seconded<br />

the nomination in behalf <strong>of</strong> his State. L. W. Parker <strong>of</strong> Mis-<br />

souri followed and withdrew the name <strong>of</strong> Cyrus Wallbridge as<br />

its candidate. <strong>The</strong> chairman then said: "Is there objection?<br />

<strong>The</strong> chair hears none, and it only remains for the chair to<br />

declare that Charles W. Fairbanks <strong>of</strong> the State <strong>of</strong> Indiana is<br />

the candidate for vice-president for the term beginning March<br />

4, 1905, <strong>by</strong> the unanimous choice <strong>of</strong> the convention."<br />

ASSIGNS HEADS OF COMMITTEES<br />

<strong>The</strong> following resolution, <strong>of</strong>fered <strong>by</strong> Senator Dolliver, then<br />

was adopted<br />

Resolved, That the permanent chairman <strong>of</strong> this convention, the Hon. Joseph G.<br />

Cannon <strong>of</strong> Illinois, be appointed chairman <strong>of</strong> the committee to notify the Hon.<br />

<strong>The</strong>odore <strong>Roosevelt</strong> <strong>of</strong> his nomination for president, and that the temporary chair-<br />

man, the Hon. Elihu Root <strong>of</strong> New York, be appointed chairman <strong>of</strong> the committee to<br />

notify the Hon. Charles W. Fairbanks <strong>of</strong> his nomination for vice-president ;<br />

and that<br />

the committee notify the candidate for president on July 2-th and the candidate for<br />

vice-president on August 3d.<br />

Senator Heyburn <strong>of</strong> Idaho <strong>of</strong>fered the following resolution,<br />

which was adopted:<br />

Resolved, That the thanks <strong>of</strong> this convention are tendered to the temporary, the<br />

permanent chairman, the secretary and his assistants, the sergeant at arms, and his<br />

deputies, the tally and reading clerks, the <strong>of</strong>ficial reporters, and their messengers.
