Complete passive voice
At times, even when the agent is known and stated, the passive voice is used to lend special emphasis
to the action. Th is is called the complete passive voice. Th e unstated message is that although
the agent is known, the action is the more important focus. In these situations, use the
following pattern.
noun ser adjectival form of the past participle ( por agent)
Although the mention of the agent with this format is not mandatory, it is common. When you
mention the agent, you will precede his/her action with the preposition por (“by”). Since you are
using the adjectival form of the past participle, remember that the participle must agree in gender
and number with the noun.
