I am a gardener. Every morning, I scatter seeds in the garden. Then I conquer the weeds and
I convince the fl ies and the mosquitoes that they need to fl y to my neighbor’s garden. My garden
produces lots of vegetables and many fruits. I deserve a lot of praise for my beautiful garden.
Infi nitives ending with -ger or -gir
In Spanish, a g before e has a soft g sound (sounds like /h/). Because the infi nitives in this group
end with a soft g sound, that same sound must be retained in their conjugated forms. Th e yo form,
however, would have a g before o, which in Spanish has a hard g sound (as in “go”). Th erefore, in
this group of verbs, the g in the yo form changes to j, so that the soft g sound (/h/) is retained.
All other conjugated forms are regular in the present tense, except for changes required in stemchanging
verbs.
