17.1 An open section is shown below. This is the cross section <strong>of</strong> a long folded steel<br />

plate. The cross section is subject to a shear force <strong>of</strong> 2 MN<br />

Solve the shear flow, plot it <strong>and</strong> then also show the shear stress values.<br />

If this is a section <strong>of</strong> a long cantilever (fixed at one end <strong>and</strong> free at the other)<br />

explain what types <strong>of</strong> deformations would you expect to see.<br />

17.2 An open section is shown below. This is the cross section <strong>of</strong> transverse frame<br />

in a ship. The shear force <strong>of</strong> 200kN.<br />

Solve the shear flow, plot it <strong>and</strong> then also show the shear stress values.<br />

The web is welded to the shell plate. What shear force must be resisted at this joint?
