Topic 9: Solving Beam Equations
A Train Station in Lisbon
Introduction
In this Chapter we will
• Review the differential equation set derived in the last Chapter and
discuss solutions using Macaulay functions and Maple.
Family of Differential Equations
Simple beam behavior considers only the
deflections due to bending, and only in 2
dimensions. Torsion, shear and other elastic
distortions are neglected (for now).
Consider a beam between two supports. We
describe the deflections with the variable v(x).
