This work establishes the influence <strong>of</strong> age on mechanical<br />

properties <strong>of</strong> radiata pine wood by testing small clear spec-<br />

imens obtained <strong>from</strong> 25 and 35 year old trees. Comparing<br />

the results <strong>of</strong> the two populations using normalized meth-<br />

ods, strength <strong>of</strong> older trees is shown to be higher than <strong>of</strong><br />

young trees, obtaining, on average, a 20 percent increase<br />

on the different mechanical properties determined in green<br />

condition and 11 percent for those determined in air dry<br />

conditions (H=12 percent).<br />
