RECORDS OF TOW NETTING AND CATCHES OF 1932<br />

Since <strong>the</strong> methods <strong>of</strong> reducing catches <strong>of</strong> eggs <strong>and</strong> larvae to <strong>the</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ard basis<br />

on which <strong>the</strong> conclusions <strong>of</strong> this paper rest, are, to a considerable extent, novel, <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>refore have not stood <strong>the</strong> test <strong>of</strong> usage, <strong>and</strong> since techniques may be altered in <strong>the</strong><br />

future in such a way as to require recalculation <strong>of</strong> present results to provide material<br />

for comparison, <strong>the</strong>re are given in tables 17 to 20, inclusive, <strong>the</strong> more pertinent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

records <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> cruises <strong>of</strong> 1932.<br />

Tables 17 <strong>and</strong> 18 give <strong>the</strong> conditions under which <strong>the</strong> hauls were made, <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

relation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> data to each o<strong>the</strong>r may be understood by consulting table 15. Similarly,<br />

tables 19 <strong>and</strong> 20, giving <strong>the</strong> counts <strong>of</strong> examined portions <strong>of</strong> catches <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ardized<br />

total catches, were based on computations illustrated by table 14.<br />

Since <strong>the</strong> data on hydrographie conditions have already been published (Bigelow,<br />

1933, pp. 124-128 <strong>and</strong> 131-133) <strong>the</strong>y are omitted from this paper.<br />
