<strong>and</strong> 1891-1896 (1896 was <strong>the</strong> last <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> earlier years in which <strong>the</strong> catch exceeded a<br />
million pounds), was 1,464,000 pounds. (In <strong>the</strong> discussion <strong>of</strong> this section, yields will<br />
be given to <strong>the</strong> nearest thous<strong>and</strong> pounds.) The period, 1897-1921, was one <strong>of</strong> ra<strong>the</strong>r<br />
consistently low output, <strong>the</strong> catch <strong>of</strong> whitefish exceeding a million pounds in only<br />
4 isolated years <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 22 for which <strong>the</strong>re are records. The average annual yield for<br />
this period was 885,000 pounds.<br />
