Full load of general cargo<br />
for Pon Nelson she was bound,<br />
With gently breeze, a south-west wind,<br />
as she did sail along<br />
The sky looked thick and heavy,<br />
and night was coming on.<br />
4. Al five o'clock that evening,<br />
through the tickle she did pass,<br />
While threatenings of a violent slOon<br />
was showing by the glass;<br />
When from south-east the wind did veer,<br />
with stonns all through the night,<br />
When the skipper's intention was to try<br />
and reach Catalina light.<br />
5. Not very [arout in the bay,<br />
the schooner she did reach<br />
When the skipper changed his course again<br />
from north unto north-east,<br />
Thinking that she would round the cape,<br />
reach Bonavista Bay,<br />
All under her foresail andjumoo,<br />
unfortunately made leeway.<br />
6. Eight fine strong men, this very night,<br />
upon her deck did stand,<br />
With eager minds and piercing eyes,<br />
all on the lookout for land,<br />
When the wind blew srrong and the seas ran high,<br />
oh what a terrible plight,<br />
When the Ella M. RUdolph end her day,<br />
on Catalina shore that night.<br />
7. The vessel scarcely struck the rocks,<br />
before covered with the waves,<br />
All of her crew except one man<br />
did meet a watery grave,<br />
This poor young chap jumped overl:x>arcl<br />
mid blinding snow and drift,<br />
By the guiding hand of Providence,<br />
got hurled up in the cliff.<br />
8. lie went his way up in the cliff,<br />
mid blinding sleet and snow,<br />
O'er mountains, fields and valleys<br />
not knowing where to go,<br />
To look for hospitality<br />
and comforts for the night,<br />
When to his surprise before his eyes,<br />
saw liule Catalina lie.<br />
9. It was early in the morning,<br />
'twas at the hour of four,
