About this Guide
This guide is intended for a Sidewinder G2 administrator. You should
read this guide if you are responsible for configuring and managing a
Sidewinder G2 Security Appliance.
This guide assumes you have:
A working knowledge of UNIX and Windows operating systems.
A basic understanding of system administration.
A working knowledge of the Internet and its associated terms and
applications.
An understanding of networks and network terminology, including
TCP/IP protocols.
This guide provides complete administration information on all
Sidewinder G2 security appliance functions and features. If you are
already responsible for the network to which the Sidewinder G2 will
be connected, you will find that you perform the same basic
administrative tasks on the Sidewinder G2. However, some of these
tasks will differ from standard UNIX systems because of the extra
security mechanisms that are included with Sidewinder G2.
Note: Because it is much easier to administer the Sidewinder G2 using the Admin Console
rather than by entering commands, this document focuses on using the Admin Console
whenever possible.
Each chapter in this guide describes the use and general configuration
of one or more related Sidewinder G2 features. Each chapter also
includes background information to describe how the underlying
technology relates to a Sidewinder G2 configuration.
Table 1 provides a description for each chapter included in this guide.
