The audit flow 18-2 Monitoring, Auditing, and Reporting Monitoring Using the Admin Console, you can monitor Sidewinder G2 activity and status in real-time. Auditing auditd reads /dev/audit and places the information into audit.raw. This is the recorded audit stream. This is now "history" and contains everything that might be worth viewing. Reporting programs kernel live audit stream aka /dev/audit..... auditd /var/log/audit.raw auditdbd auditdb auditbotd auditbotd has a threshold and can trigger an event response (see Chapter 17). Using the Admin Console, you can filter and view audit information. This is an SQL database of information maintained by auditdbd. It contains all relevant audit information. Using the Admin Console, you can generate detailed, easy-to-read reports.

Firewall Monitoring window About the Firewall Monitoring window Monitoring Sidewinder G2 status The Admin Console allows you to display status information on any Sidewinder G2 you have configured via the Monitoring window. You can have several Monitoring windows running simultaneously, each monitoring a single Sidewinder G2. Once launched, each window is a self-contained program capable of running completely on its own. That is, the Monitoring window will continue to run even if you exit the Admin Console. To view a Monitoring window, using the Admin Console select Reports & Monitoring -> Firewall Monitoring. A login window appears. Enter your user name and authentication information and click OK. The Firewall Monitoring window appears. This window is used to report the status of various processes, network, and proxy traffic for a particular Sidewinder G2. The name of the Sidewinder G2 being monitored is shown in the window’s title bar. You can monitor the following information: Load Average—This area displays the number of processes in the system run queue that is averaged over a period of time. Disk Use—This area displays how much of the Sidewinder G2’s hard disk space is currently being used. Memory Use—This area displays the amount of memory currently being used by programs operating on this Sidewinder G2. Monitoring, Auditing, and Reporting 18-3
