Rename the file. mv newfile file1 Auditing the use of chtype commands The Sidewinder G2 audits each failed occurrence of a chtype command. However, you can also audit successful chtype events. Use the following commands to enable or disable the auditing of successful chtype commands. To enable auditing of successful chtype commands, enter the following command: sysctl -w kern.auditchtype=1 To disable auditing of successful chtype commands, enter the following command: sysctl -w kern.auditchtype=0 Note: Whether you enable or disable auditing of successful chtype events, failed chtype events are always audited. Creating your own scripts While operating in either the User or Admn domains, you can create your own scripts for use on the Sidewinder G2. Scripts created in the User domain will be executable by the Admn and User domain but no other domain. Scripts created in the Admn domain will not be executable by anyone until the type is changed to Admn:scrp using the chtype command.
Understanding automatic (cron) jobs Understanding automatic (cron) jobs The Sidewinder G2 contains jobs that perform routine maintenance tasks such as rotating files and cleaning out old files. These jobs are run by the cron daemon, which reads its configuration file (/etc/ crontab) to determine which jobs to run and when to run them. The following summarizes each automatic cron job on the Sidewinder G2. /etc/daily When enabled, this job runs at 2:00 a.m. each day and performs the following tasks: Tells the operator which file systems need rotating. Prints a summary of mail messages to be sent. Prints a status of the mounted file systems. Reports on system security by checking if files such as password files have changed. Runs daily.local. (This allows you to remove miscellaneous old or junk files from directories such as /usr and /var/tmp (however, you must first uncomment the appropriate cleandir command line(s) in /etc/daily.local). Rotates the /var/account/acct file. Prints a summary of network status. Compresses and rotates messages in the mail filtering log directories. Sends e-mail if the /var/log directory becomes 85% full and again when it becomes 100% full. The output of this job is sent to the /var/log/daily.out file.
