csr awards <strong>and</strong> recognition<br />

The company’s CSR initiatives continue to receive recognition<br />

in 2011 in both <strong>the</strong> inter<strong>nation</strong>al <strong>and</strong> <strong>nation</strong>al arena. In <strong>the</strong><br />

inter<strong>nation</strong>al CSR scene, MRCB was accorded with two<br />

Distinguished Honorees by <strong>the</strong> US-based Inter<strong>nation</strong>al<br />

Business Stevie Awards for two programmes.<br />

The MRCB PINTAR programme was accorded recognition as<br />

<strong>the</strong> Corporate Social Responsibility Programme of <strong>the</strong> Year<br />

in Asia (Subcontinent, Australia <strong>and</strong> New Zeal<strong>and</strong>) while its<br />

Green Building Initiative also received recognition as one of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Environmental Responsibility Programmes of <strong>the</strong> Year in<br />

Asia (Subcontinent, Australia <strong>and</strong> New Zeal<strong>and</strong>).<br />

Nationally, MRCB was awarded <strong>the</strong> Conglomerate Award by<br />

<strong>the</strong> Br<strong>and</strong>laureate Award while it continues to be recognised<br />

by as a finalist by <strong>the</strong> ACCA Malaysia Sustainability Reporting<br />

Awards 2011 (ACCA MaSRA).<br />

MRCB continues to be represented as a committee member of<br />

<strong>the</strong> Malaysian chapter of <strong>the</strong> United Nations Global Compact<br />

(UNGC) in keeping with our aim of adopting inter<strong>nation</strong>al<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards for our CSR programmes <strong>and</strong> vision. The goal<br />

is to incorporate all <strong>the</strong> 10 UNGC principles on human<br />

rights, labour rights, environmental sustainability <strong>and</strong> anticorruption<br />

into <strong>the</strong> Company’s operations <strong>and</strong> strategies <strong>and</strong><br />

to report on <strong>the</strong>ir implementations.<br />

Details of <strong>the</strong> Company’s CSR programmes are available in<br />

a separate report on CSR, which is an integral part of this<br />

report.<br />

FInancIaL Year UnDer revIeW<br />

(Pursuant to paragraph 15.26 (a) of <strong>the</strong> Main Market Listing<br />

Requirements of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad.)<br />

The Board is fully accountable to ensure that <strong>the</strong> Audited<br />

Financial Statements are prepared in accordance with <strong>the</strong><br />

Companies Act, 1965 <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> applicable approved accounting<br />

st<strong>and</strong>ards set out by <strong>the</strong> Malaysian Accounting St<strong>and</strong>ards<br />

Board so as to present a true <strong>and</strong> fair view of <strong>the</strong> state of<br />

affairs of <strong>the</strong> Group <strong>and</strong> of <strong>the</strong> profit <strong>and</strong> loss <strong>and</strong> cash flow<br />

as at <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> accounting period.<br />

In preparing <strong>the</strong> Audited Financial Statements, <strong>the</strong> Directors<br />

are satisfied that <strong>the</strong> applicable approved Accounting<br />

St<strong>and</strong>ards in Malaysia have been complied with <strong>and</strong><br />

reasonable <strong>and</strong> prudent judgements <strong>and</strong> estimates have been<br />

made. The Audited Financial Statements are also prepared<br />

on a going concern basis as <strong>the</strong> Board has reasonable<br />

expectation, after having made enquiries, that <strong>the</strong> Group has<br />

adequate resources to continue in operational existence for<br />

<strong>the</strong> foreseeable future.<br />

The above statements are clear reflections of <strong>the</strong> conscious<br />

efforts of <strong>the</strong> MRCB Board <strong>and</strong> Management to streng<strong>the</strong>n<br />

its governance process <strong>and</strong> maintain its position as one of<br />

<strong>the</strong> leaders in <strong>the</strong> application of corporate governance.<br />

The Board is pleased to report to <strong>the</strong> shareholders that <strong>the</strong><br />

Company has complied with <strong>the</strong> Malaysian Code on Corporate<br />

Governance <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Main Market Listing Requirements of<br />

Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. The Board believes this<br />

to be an ongoing process <strong>and</strong> will continue to strive for<br />

adoption of leading practices in corporate governance.<br />
