MRCB’s capability in <strong>the</strong> rehabilitation <strong>and</strong> construction<br />
of breakwaters is well recognised <strong>and</strong> proven in <strong>the</strong> many<br />
successful projects undertaken in Melaka, Penang <strong>and</strong> Pahang,<br />
including <strong>the</strong> award-winning Teluk Tekek project on Tioman<br />
Isl<strong>and</strong> involving beach <strong>and</strong> coastline rehabilitation.<br />
The River <strong>and</strong> Beach Rehabilitation Project at Teluk Tekek,<br />
Tioman Isl<strong>and</strong> was accorded Distinguished Honoree in <strong>the</strong><br />
Environmental Responsibility Programme of <strong>the</strong> Year at <strong>the</strong> 2010<br />
Inter<strong>nation</strong>al Business Awards organised by <strong>the</strong> Stevie Awards,<br />
based in <strong>the</strong> United States.<br />
The o<strong>the</strong>r main project in 2011 undertaken by <strong>the</strong> division is <strong>the</strong><br />
Eastern Dispersal Link (EDL) Expressway in Johor Bahru. 100%<br />
owned by MRCB, <strong>the</strong> EDL is an 8.1 km expressway designed<br />
to disperse traffi c from <strong>the</strong> main arterial roads in Johor Bahru.<br />
It will include a 4.4 km elevated structure that will link <strong>the</strong> new<br />
Customs, Immigration & Quarantine Complex (CIQ), known as<br />
EDL<br />

Bangunan Sultan Isk<strong>and</strong>ar (“BSI”) at Bukit Cagar, Johor with <strong>the</strong><br />
North-South Expressway (“PLUS”) at P<strong>and</strong>an Interchange. The<br />
concession period of <strong>the</strong> project is 34 years, inclusive of a four-<br />
year construction period which commenced in mid-2008, with<br />
expected completion <strong>and</strong> operation by fi rst half of 2012.<br />
To complement <strong>the</strong> above projects <strong>and</strong> provide assistance in<br />
design work, <strong>the</strong> division also undertakes <strong>and</strong> offers numerical<br />
modeling services on hydrography to external clients including<br />
<strong>the</strong> Government of Malaysia.<br />
This, amongst o<strong>the</strong>rs, reduces dependency on external<br />
modelers, mostly offered by foreign consultants <strong>and</strong> providing<br />
opportunities to home-grown modelers to develop new skills<br />
<strong>and</strong> expertise.
