Colin Mooers is Chair of the Department of Politics and School of
Public Administration at Ryerson University, Toronto. He is also affiliated
to the York-Ryerson Graduate Programme in Communication and
Culture. His has written on the public sphere; the politics of social
movements; and capitalism and citizenship. He is the author of The
Making of Bourgeois Europe: Absolutism, Revolution and the Rise of
Capitalism in England, France and Germany (Verso, 1991) and a contributing
editor of Restructuring and Resistance: Canadian Public Policy in the
Age of Global Capitalism (Fernwood 2000).
Ellen Meiksins Wood was for many years Professor of Political Science at
York University, Toronto. She has published widely on the nature and
history of capitalism, ancient Greek democracy, and the history of
political thought, ancient and modern. Among her books are The Pristine
Culture of Capitalism, Peasant-Citizen and Slave, Democracy Against
Capitalism, The Origin of Capitalism: A Longer View, and most recently,
Empire of Capital.
Thom Workman writes and teaches in the area of critical political
economy and political philosophy at the University of New Brunswick,
Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. He is currently preparing a
manuscript on the distinctly modern reading of the ancient Greek
historian Thucydides, a study that forms part of a wider research project
that explores the relationship between the intellectual foundation of
modernity and contemporary forms of political irrationalism.
