7.2.1.8 Variables Derived from Student, Teacher, and School
Background Data
General Information
In addition to the background variables contained in the student, teacher, and school
questionnaires, a number of derived variables based on the student and teacher background
variables were computed for use in the international reports. These derived variables, many of
which use combined response options or data from more than one item, are also included in the
International Database for use in secondary analyses. There are also several derived variables
based on school background variables that are included in the international school background
file, although these were not presented in the international reports.
